A discussion event hosted by Gwyn!

Today, researchers have developed a special kind of 3D printer that can print... living cells! These are usually stem cells collected from a donor and "coerced" to develop as specific tissue, such as skin cells, or muscles, or tendons, or nerves; you can even combine different types together. It's weird, but it's not science-fiction any longer.
While a practical application for this technology is to replace human tissue which is damaged beyond self-regeneration (like 3rd-degree skin burns), it has also been successfully used to artificially create... beef steaks!
Obviously, no animals are harmed in this process. The resulting tissue is just a bunch of cells; it has less awareness than a plant. But it tastes exactly the same and looks pretty much like a steak — since it's made of exactly the same cells! At one stroke, we can finally stop domestic animals suffering, reduce methane output, stop razing forests for grazing land, and feed everybody (while keeping vegans happy).
Is this the future? Come and discuss at Pip Torok CC in Alpine Meadow!
