important Dates re: Byelection

Post by Callipygian »

Since only 4 candidates stood and were acclaimed for the Representative Assembly in the elections that were just held, a byelection must be held to fill the vacant seat this leaves on the Representative Assembly.

Here are the relevant dates regarding the byelection:

Census Nov 10
Errors or omissions on Census reported to the Dean of the SC by Nov 24
Citizen List declared and call for candidates Nov 24
Close of nominations Dec 1
Campaigning can begin Dec 2
Polls open Dec 9th, close Dec 16

People often say that, in a democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people. Of course, that is not true. Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote -- a very different thing.
