[2023/04/22 11:38] Almut Brunswick: 2 Executive Report (Moon)
[2023/04/22 11:39] Moon Adamant: /me stands up
[2023/04/22 11:39] Almut Brunswick: Madame Chancellor, the stage is yours.
[2023/04/22 11:39] Moon Adamant: thank you Madam LRA ㋡
[2023/04/22 11:39] Moon Adamant: ok, in the last three weeks
[2023/04/22 11:39] Moon Adamant: i really must commend the effort of Sandy to bring about the CDS passport process to conclusion!
[2023/04/22 11:40] Moon Adamant: This is not Exec per se, but great work!
[2023/04/22 11:40] Sandy Burgess: /me smiles. Thank you - I am glad most is done on that front
[2023/04/22 11:41] Moon Adamant: to support the CDS passport, we have set an office in the rathaus in NFS to be the BBB Embassy
[2023/04/22 11:41] Moon Adamant: Our CDS passport cam be taken there
[2023/04/22 11:41] Moon Adamant: in fact, i already have mine ㋡ you are all invited to take your own
[2023/04/22 11:41] Jerry McNally: I really like the poster at https://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?t=10343
[2023/04/22 11:42] Jerry McNally: for the opening of the Embassy
[2023/04/22 11:42] Moon Adamant: if you have an old BBB passport, your stamps will migrate to the newer, CDS one
[2023/04/22 11:42] Almut Brunswick: Are there some instructions available on site? I must admit that I haven't been there yet.
[2023/04/22 11:42] Moon Adamant: thanks Jerry ㋡
[2023/04/22 11:42] Moon Adamant: Almut; i'll let Sandy answer that
[2023/04/22 11:42] Rosie Gray: /me sneaks in
[2023/04/22 11:42] Moon Adamant: and hi Rosie ㋡
[2023/04/22 11:43] Jerry McNally: Hi Rosie
[2023/04/22 11:43] Almut Brunswick: Hello Rosie! Welcome back
[2023/04/22 11:43] Rosie Gray: sorry to be late but I just ended an RL zoom meeting
[2023/04/22 11:43] Gwyneth Llewelyn: it happens :)
[2023/04/22 11:44] Sandy Burgess: Instructions are yet to be made. The process is mostly self explanatory though. You click a terminal in the embassy which takes you to a web form. You fill the form, I get a message, check if the person is a citizen and then issue the passport
[2023/04/22 11:44] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Seems simple enough to me!
[2023/04/22 11:44] Moon Adamant: to support the CDS Passport as well, posting rights in the CDS group were granted to Dave (lord.junibalya), similarly to the rights granted to Etopia
[2023/04/22 11:45] Sandy Burgess: At first we had a notecard but the web interface is cleaner and less hassle I think
[2023/04/22 11:45] Moon Adamant: Dave, incidentally, is the editor of the BBB Gazette, and since this week, a new CDS citizen ㋡
[2023/04/22 11:45] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me *nods* & agree
[2023/04/22 11:45] Sandy Burgess: In return I got posting rights in their groups
[2023/04/22 11:45] Moon Adamant: so we welcome him, and in fact, welcome all new citizens!
[2023/04/22 11:45] Almut Brunswick: yay
[2023/04/22 11:46] Gwyneth Llewelyn: welcome all :))
[2023/04/22 11:46] Moon Adamant: we also are holding a celebration tomorrow at noon at the Platz, everyone is invited to attend ㋡
[2023/04/22 11:46] Gwyneth Llewelyn: \o/
[2023/04/22 11:47] Moon Adamant: relate dto this collaboration, we were mentioned in two SL media
[2023/04/22 11:47] Almut Brunswick: because of the opening of the BBB embassy?
[2023/04/22 11:47] Moon Adamant: first the BBB Gazette, and next the GRID News
[2023/04/22 11:47] Moon Adamant: (links are in the forums)
[2023/04/22 11:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (and now the SL Destinations)
[2023/04/22 11:47] Moon Adamant: oh, the general collaboration BBB-CDS
[2023/04/22 11:47] Almut Brunswick: Ah
[2023/04/22 11:47] Jerry McNally: Here's the Gazette link https://lastditch.typepad.com/bbbgazette/2023/04/the-cds-issues-its-own-passports-events-announcements-new-locations.html
[2023/04/22 11:48] Moon Adamant: due to this, and also to the CDS Equestrians' efforts
[2023/04/22 11:48] Almut Brunswick: Thank you, Jerry
[2023/04/22 11:48] Rosie Gray: fabulous work on this Moon and Sandy
[2023/04/22 11:48] Jerry McNally: Agreed, it does seem that lots is happening this term
[2023/04/22 11:48] Moon Adamant: who btw held their event in reference to the CIG agreement on Easter -- teh CDS Easter Ride, kudos to them!
[2023/04/22 11:49] Moon Adamant: we have been noticing (anecdotally, of course) an increase in visitors to our sims, and new citizens joining :-))
[2023/04/22 11:49] Moon Adamant: we also activated the Scripted Agents Acess Tool
[2023/04/22 11:50] Moon Adamant: this means that when you see an avatar in the CDS now, it is almost for sure not a bot, and someone visiting
[2023/04/22 11:50] Moon Adamant: this wasn't what was happening in say, February
[2023/04/22 11:50] Almut Brunswick: Nods
[2023/04/22 11:51] Moon Adamant: to carry on with the increase in visitors, the first jump happened after the Equestrians were featured in SL Destinations (and other channels) -- thanks again to the Equestrians for their initiative!
[2023/04/22 11:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: :-)
[2023/04/22 11:52] Moon Adamant: so... expect more visitors because we have been featured again in SL Destinations!
[2023/04/22 11:52] Moon Adamant: https://secondlife.com/destination/alpine-meadow
[2023/04/22 11:52] Moon Adamant: :-)))
[2023/04/22 11:52] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me fondly remembers swimming in the Rhenus during the Equestrian Ride :)
[2023/04/22 11:52] Gwyneth Llewelyn: woot!
[2023/04/22 11:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: twice in a term! hooray for that!
[2023/04/22 11:53] Moon Adamant: either yesterday or early today... LL doesn't send any feedback about the SLD posts
[2023/04/22 11:53] Jerry McNally: I see that the description doesn't translate that Kuhfluchtwasserfälle name - thankfully haha
[2023/04/22 11:53] Moon Adamant: and we'll keep insisting ;-)
[2023/04/22 11:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (deliberately, Jerry :) )
[2023/04/22 11:53] Almut Brunswick: Jerry, I think it is better this way
[2023/04/22 11:53] Rosie Gray: :D
[2023/04/22 11:53] Jerry McNally: haha yes
[2023/04/22 11:53] Moon Adamant: well, it had to fit the space
[2023/04/22 11:53] Rosie Gray: something for people to discover
[2023/04/22 11:53] Moon Adamant: yup
[2023/04/22 11:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: ha!
[2023/04/22 11:54] Moon Adamant: it will be there on a sign soon
[2023/04/22 11:54] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me hopes that the sign features cows
[2023/04/22 11:54] Moon Adamant: ok, just a sec... reading
[2023/04/22 11:54] Almut Brunswick: "Cow Escape Waterfalls" - Google must have messed up it! :D
[2023/04/22 11:54] Moon Adamant: Ok, we have held important events too

[2023/04/22 11:57] Almut Brunswick: Again something related to music history?
[2023/04/22 11:57] Gwyneth Llewelyn: mm hmm
[2023/04/22 11:57] Moon Adamant: the Spring Ball had to be postponed
[2023/04/22 11:57] Gwyneth Llewelyn: :(

[2023/04/22 12:01] Moon Adamant: done ㋡
[2023/04/22 12:01] Jerry McNally: More than enough!
[2023/04/22 12:01] Almut Brunswick: Thank you, Moon. Any questions?
[2023/04/22 12:01] Moon Adamant: me looks around, hoping someone will use the Hand Up HUD :-D
[2023/04/22 12:01] Jerry McNally: I'm trying to think of a question just so that I can raise my hand with this HUD thing...
[2023/04/22 12:01] Gwyneth Llewelyn: None from the audience, I see
[2023/04/22 12:01] Moon Adamant: lol Jerry
[2023/04/22 12:01] Rosie Gray: hehe
[2023/04/22 12:02] Moon Adamant: I see you Jerry ㋡
[2023/04/22 12:02] Almut Brunswick: That does not seem to be the case, so let's continue.
[2023/04/22 12:02] Moon Adamant: oh
[2023/04/22 12:02] Moon Adamant: just let me say this
[2023/04/22 12:02] Jerry McNally: Sorry, couldn't resist
[2023/04/22 12:02] Almut Brunswick: I better try it after the meeting ^^
[2023/04/22 12:02] Almut Brunswick: 3 Land-Use Commission Report (Sandy)
[2023/04/22 12:02] Moon Adamant: work on teh website has been conti9nuing (thanks to the Web team!)
[2023/04/22 12:03] Sandy Burgess: This time I have a little more than last meeting
[2023/04/22 12:03] Gwyneth Llewelyn: :-D
[2023/04/22 12:04] Sandy Burgess: The LUC has no pro tempore and it seems the position will remain vacant for a while.
[2023/04/22 12:05] Sandy Burgess: The transportation system (i.e. the cable car) was briefly discussed. There has not much happened since I had a rather warped two or three months. Mizou agreed to help with meshing
[2023/04/22 12:06] Almut Brunswick: :( Actually I offered to help here...
[2023/04/22 12:06] Sandy Burgess: Leslie took charge of renewing the covenants and I will report if there is progress
[2023/04/22 12:06] Sandy Burgess: If I remember right you said you were busy with RL. I am sure there will be enough work for all
[2023/04/22 12:07] Almut Brunswick: It depends on the timeline
[2023/04/22 12:07] Sandy Burgess: At least that is what I understood
[2023/04/22 12:07] Sandy Burgess: Ok - I am glad for all the help I can get because I have no real idea about mesh
[2023/04/22 12:08] Sandy Burgess: Thank you for the offer Almut
[2023/04/22 12:08] Sandy Burgess: The next meeting will be on 29th
[2023/04/22 12:08] Sandy Burgess: That was about it
[2023/04/22 12:08] Moon Adamant: good to know
[2023/04/22 12:08] Sandy Burgess: Thank you
[2023/04/22 12:08] Almut Brunswick: Thank you, Sandy
[2023/04/22 12:08] Moon Adamant: (a question?)
[2023/04/22 12:08] Almut Brunswick: Any further questions?
[2023/04/22 12:08] Moon Adamant: yesplease
[2023/04/22 12:09] Almut Brunswick: Moon please
[2023/04/22 12:09] Sandy Burgess: Ah - sorry - yes
[2023/04/22 12:09] Sandy Burgess: Moon please
[2023/04/22 12:09] Moon Adamant: Sandy, in the absence of a pro tempore, how are you organizing the agenda?
[2023/04/22 12:10] Sandy Burgess: Leslie is doing the agenda. He said at the moment he sees no problems at making it to the meetings
[2023/04/22 12:10] Moon Adamant: ok, thanks!
[2023/04/22 12:10] Almut Brunswick: Any other questions?
[2023/04/22 12:11] Almut Brunswick: That does not seem to be the case, so let's continue.
[2023/04/22 12:11] Almut Brunswick: 4 Old Business
4.1 Government Hours Q&A 19 Mar 2023
* Brief summary of the event. Thread: https://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?p=51481#p51481
[2023/04/22 12:11] Almut Brunswick: I don't think we need to dive into details too much, since the thread summarizes the points very well. Thank you, Moon!
[2023/04/22 12:12] Moon Adamant: YW, though i'd like to suggest that a new arrangement could be done about these notes
[2023/04/22 12:13] Almut Brunswick: I have, however, a certain sorrow that this social media responsibility should be laid on more shoulders in the long run.
[2023/04/22 12:13] Almut Brunswick: I think this way of paraphrasing with headlines works well.
[2023/04/22 12:14] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Sorry... I didn't understand that bit about the "social media responsibility"?
[2023/04/22 12:14] Jerry McNally: /me has just spotted an error with the already approved agenda and that link...
[2023/04/22 12:14] Almut Brunswick: What I mean is when we will have a different Chancellor in the future, the shoes could become too big for that person.
[2023/04/22 12:14] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me is now even more confused after Jerry's comment
[2023/04/22 12:14] Rosie Gray: I didn't understand about the social media responsibilities either
[2023/04/22 12:15] Almut Brunswick: https://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?p=51544#p51544
[2023/04/22 12:15] Moon Adamant: which Gov Hours are we discussing?
[2023/04/22 12:15] Rosie Gray: oh, well that has always been the case, Almut
[2023/04/22 12:15] Almut Brunswick: Question: Moon, is the Executive still searching for a qualified Social Media PIO?
[2023/04/22 12:15] Jerry McNally: that link is for the Q&A we already looked at at the last RA meeting.
[2023/04/22 12:15] Almut Brunswick: This is where I refer too
[2023/04/22 12:15] Moon Adamant: oh, those were April Q&A
[2023/04/22 12:15] Jerry McNally: This is the most recent Q&A https://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?t=10344
[2023/04/22 12:15] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ah, ok. I was wondering exactly about the different Q&A links...
[2023/04/22 12:16] Almut Brunswick: umm it looks the same for me, but anyway...what Jerry says
[2023/04/22 12:16] Moon Adamant: agenda refers to March Q&A, you see
[2023/04/22 12:16] Gwyneth Llewelyn: while the link you placed on chat is for April
[2023/04/22 12:16] Moon Adamant: the social media question was in April
[2023/04/22 12:17] Gwyneth Llewelyn: right, that was what confused _me_ hehe — I get it now
[2023/04/22 12:17] Moon Adamant: which were published a short bit ago
[2023/04/22 12:17] Almut Brunswick: I don't expect an answer right now, but clustering responsibilities and knowledge in just one person may lead to problems
[2023/04/22 12:17] Moon Adamant: and taht actually brings me to my suggestion
[2023/04/22 12:17] Almut Brunswick: Ok, let's hear
[2023/04/22 12:17] Moon Adamant: could somebody else do teh notes?
[2023/04/22 12:18] Moon Adamant: it's ok about arranging the event space, doing PR, etc -- that's all within teh exec roles
[2023/04/22 12:18] Almut Brunswick: ?
[2023/04/22 12:18] Gwyneth Llewelyn: You mean, you've just opened a new position in the Civil Service for Gov' Hours Transcripter & Note-taker?
[2023/04/22 12:19] Moon Adamant: uh, my point is why is exec doing it, really?
[2023/04/22 12:19] Jerry McNally: The law says "5. GHQ meetings will be summarized by the chair of each meeting,"
[2023/04/22 12:19] Almut Brunswick: Well, in fact I was hosting this evening, since the turn was on me
[2023/04/22 12:19] Rosie Gray: doing what, Moon?
[2023/04/22 12:19] Rosie Gray: I'm confused
[2023/04/22 12:19] Moon Adamant: the notes on teh Q&A
[2023/04/22 12:19] Jerry McNally: The way I read it, whoever's chairing the meeting makes the notes
[2023/04/22 12:19] Gwyneth Llewelyn: *that* makes sense, Jerry
[2023/04/22 12:19] Jerry McNally: And the chair moves each time
[2023/04/22 12:19] Rosie Gray: oh, yes it's whoever is chairing
[2023/04/22 12:19] Almut Brunswick: So in fact, Moon is right and I should have summarized the Q&A.
[2023/04/22 12:19] Moon Adamant: well, Exec has been doing them
[2023/04/22 12:19] Almut Brunswick: Shame on me...
[2023/04/22 12:19] Jerry McNally: yep
[2023/04/22 12:20] Sandy Burgess: It seems we have two discussions parallel: one about the organisation of the government hours and one about the general PR/social media
[2023/04/22 12:20] Gwyneth Llewelyn: You did it for the SC Q&A too, Moon?
[2023/04/22 12:20] Moon Adamant: my point is that Exec is not well suited for this keeping of records
[2023/04/22 12:20] Moon Adamant: i did them for all :-D
[2023/04/22 12:20] Gwyneth Llewelyn: huh.
[2023/04/22 12:20] Jerry McNally: yeah you need tostop doing that, and get that other chairs to do it
[2023/04/22 12:20] Almut Brunswick: Yes, Sandy, so let's return to the original question and do the notes better next time by the host.
[2023/04/22 12:20] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Hmm. Well, I do read the law as Jerry et. al
[2023/04/22 12:21] Moon Adamant: well, i asked and i definitely got the notion that iut was Exec's responsability to make the notes happen
[2023/04/22 12:21] Almut Brunswick: You asked whom?
[2023/04/22 12:21] Moon Adamant: could a clarification be made officially?
[2023/04/22 12:21] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Whoever you asked has clearly a different interpretation than us :)
[2023/04/22 12:22] Moon Adamant: oh i can't recall now, possibly several people
[2023/04/22 12:22] Jerry McNally: I can clarify in these minutes what the law states, yes
[2023/04/22 12:22] Rosie Gray: I really don't think we need a law about who takes notes for these Q&As
[2023/04/22 12:22] Almut Brunswick: The law says it clearly, so we did it wrongly this time
[2023/04/22 12:22] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me subscribes to the clarification proposed by Jerry
[2023/04/22 12:22] Jerry McNally: https://cdsdemocracy.org/faqs/nl-7-1-government-question-time-act/
[2023/04/22 12:23] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Alas, we all make mistakes now and then... :) So long as we're allowed to correct them!
[2023/04/22 12:23] Rosie Gray: indeed!
[2023/04/22 12:23] Moon Adamant: i think there is an ambiguity there
[2023/04/22 12:23] Rosie Gray: seems pretty clear to me
[2023/04/22 12:24] Almut Brunswick: Jerry, please do. - Don't let to invest too much time of this meeting for this. "5. GHQ meetings will be summarized by the chair of each meeting,", but "These summaries will be posted in the Executive Forum and the Q&A Forum within seven (7) days."
[2023/04/22 12:24] Rosie Gray: trouble is who can remember all the details unless they go and read them
[2023/04/22 12:24] Almut Brunswick: Well, it is not ideal to host a meeting and also to do the minutes.
[2023/04/22 12:24] Almut Brunswick: Of course, you can log the chat
[2023/04/22 12:24] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ok, so let me suggest the following short motion: "Regarding some doubts on the interpretation of NL 7-1 regarding who takes notes, the RA affirms its original interpretation that whoever chairs the meeting, writes the notes"
[2023/04/22 12:25] Almut Brunswick: Yes, sounds good.
[2023/04/22 12:25] Rosie Gray: it's really not that difficult
[2023/04/22 12:25] Moon Adamant: mind you, next Q&A will be hosted by Exec :-D
[2023/04/22 12:25] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ah, I see now the problem... if someone else does the notes, *they* cannot post them on the *Executive* forum.
[2023/04/22 12:25] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (I think)
[2023/04/22 12:25] Almut Brunswick: Ok, then I will take the notes then, so your effort will be compensated.
[2023/04/22 12:25] Almut Brunswick: :D
[2023/04/22 12:25] Moon Adamant: actually ia sked too and they're posted under hmmm
[2023/04/22 12:26] Moon Adamant: Q&A about the CDS
[2023/04/22 12:26] Jerry McNally: Can't the chairs of the other two branches be given rights to post to Exec?
[2023/04/22 12:26] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Oh!
[2023/04/22 12:26] Moon Adamant: ehehe thanks ㋡
[2023/04/22 12:26] Rosie Gray: yes that's true, but that reference could be changed to be inclusive of all the branches
[2023/04/22 12:26] Moon Adamant: Jerry, i have no idea
[2023/04/22 12:26] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Jerry: of course they can (technically speaking), but we need to request that from the SC
[2023/04/22 12:27] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (the SC has jurisdiction over the forums)
[2023/04/22 12:27] Jerry McNally: Alternatively, they just go in the one Q&A Forum
[2023/04/22 12:27] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me *nods*
[2023/04/22 12:27] Almut Brunswick: Yes, and not in the Exec forum
[2023/04/22 12:27] Moon Adamant: i have been placing them there
[2023/04/22 12:27] Gwyneth Llewelyn: so it means amending that law, then?
[2023/04/22 12:27] Jerry McNally: This seems like such a trivial thing to be spending this much time on
[2023/04/22 12:27] Gwyneth Llewelyn: hah
[2023/04/22 12:27] Gwyneth Llewelyn: right :)
[2023/04/22 12:27] Almut Brunswick: Yes
[2023/04/22 12:28] Almut Brunswick: Let's continue.
[2023/04/22 12:28] Jerry McNally: Yes, let's amend the law
[2023/04/22 12:28] Almut Brunswick: My original question remained unanswered for now, but this is fine.
[2023/04/22 12:28] Moon Adamant: oh
[2023/04/22 12:28] Moon Adamant: the social media?
[2023/04/22 12:28] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me seconds jerry
[2023/04/22 12:28] Rosie Gray: I agree with the trivial, Jerry!
[2023/04/22 12:28] Almut Brunswick: Yes
[2023/04/22 12:29] Moon Adamant: ok, I may offer to help with the PIO social media thing till someone shows by who wants to do it
[2023/04/22 12:30] Moon Adamant: i think it's important, btw, i mean really social media
[2023/04/22 12:30] Moon Adamant: not meaning calendar, group notices and forums
[2023/04/22 12:30] Almut Brunswick: Let me rephrase my concern: You are so active and skillful in so many things in this respect that a *future* Chancellor would have to learn a lot to maintain these activities continuously and with the same quantity and quality.
[2023/04/22 12:30] Rosie Gray: I was commenting about the 'who posts the notes where' issue
[2023/04/22 12:30] Gwyneth Llewelyn: That was almost a compliment, Almut :)
[2023/04/22 12:31] Almut Brunswick: Gwyn, it is, but again also a serious concern
[2023/04/22 12:31] Gwyneth Llewelyn: But aye, I see your point
[2023/04/22 12:31] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Aye, it is
[2023/04/22 12:31] Moon Adamant: well, first of all, thanks! Then I can only say that I have increased the exec team in numbers
[2023/04/22 12:31] Moon Adamant: because quite honestly., one person can't do it all
[2023/04/22 12:32] Rosie Gray: /me tries out the hand raising and hopes someone sees it
[2023/04/22 12:32] Almut Brunswick: Rosie, I need to zoom out to see your hand raised. But ok
[2023/04/22 12:32] Almut Brunswick: Please
[2023/04/22 12:33] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me *raises hand*
[2023/04/22 12:33] Rosie Gray: I just wanted to add that the burdens of the Chancellorship are great in all areas and I've said for years that it's too much for one person
[2023/04/22 12:33] Moon Adamant: /me thinks the hud is a success
[2023/04/22 12:33] Almut Brunswick: (As a German and considering our dark history, I will refrain from using this gesture^^)
[2023/04/22 12:33] Rosie Gray: the idea is that there is always a responsible PIO and others to help with everying
[2023/04/22 12:33] Moon Adamant: Rosie, I agree with you 100%
[2023/04/22 12:33] Rosie Gray: but unfortunately, most of the time it's patchy at best.
[2023/04/22 12:33] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (hrmpf I was thinking the same, Almut :-P )
[2023/04/22 12:33] Rosie Gray: so, this is how it is
[2023/04/22 12:34] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (that's more like it)
[2023/04/22 12:34] Rosie Gray: and unless we can get more people to help out, it will end up being that whoever is the Chancellor will do the best they can with their skill set
[2023/04/22 12:34] Rosie Gray: sometimes that includes social media, sometimes it's other strengths
[2023/04/22 12:35] Rosie Gray: I do not think that expecting a Chancellor to lesson what they do because of future expectations is the way to go
[2023/04/22 12:35] Rosie Gray: we appreciate the strengths that are brought to the job
[2023/04/22 12:35] Rosie Gray: and also once things are set uup, it does make it easier for the next person
[2023/04/22 12:35] Rosie Gray: provided that systems are passed over from one Chancellor to the next
[2023/04/22 12:35] Rosie Gray: done
[2023/04/22 12:36] Jerry McNally: /me nods
[2023/04/22 12:36] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me *nods* and agrees
[2023/04/22 12:37] Gwyneth Llewelyn: May I? (I promise it's short)
[2023/04/22 12:37] Almut Brunswick: Thank you, Rosie. I partly agree. However, I see a certain need to document "classic" and all new Chancellor or Exec tasks in a way that new people can take over at least on a basic level.
[2023/04/22 12:37] Almut Brunswick: Sure, Gwyn
[2023/04/22 12:37] Moon Adamant: agree, Rosie; that's why i will offer to keep helping with FB and twitter, as I couldn't find anyone to do it myself
[2023/04/22 12:37] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Oh — I like that idea!
[2023/04/22 12:37] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Anyway
[2023/04/22 12:37] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Just a small reminder: while the Chancellor has a role in the CDS — as befits a self-governed community — we should not forget that the CDS, as a whole, also competes in SL for land rental... and land barons, obviously, work on this full time
[2023/04/22 12:37] Rosie Gray: there is already a document that I made
[2023/04/22 12:37] Rosie Gray: with the input of Tor and Kyoko
[2023/04/22 12:38] Rosie Gray: and Moon has had access to it
[2023/04/22 12:38] Moon Adamant: yup, great doc that
[2023/04/22 12:38] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (done btw — I said it was short :) )
[2023/04/22 12:38] Almut Brunswick: I was even referring to it, but it should be amended accordingly
[2023/04/22 12:38] Almut Brunswick: that is what I meant with "classic" tasks
[2023/04/22 12:39] Moon Adamant: you know, when the exec was created
[2023/04/22 12:39] Moon Adamant: i was in RA, I think
[2023/04/22 12:39] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me suggests that we create a subcommittee to redo the list of tasks assigned to the Chancellor...
[2023/04/22 12:39] Moon Adamant: back then I defended that we should have a Cabinet instead of one Chancellor
[2023/04/22 12:39] Moon Adamant: obviously, it didn't find support :-D
[2023/04/22 12:40] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Well we have "the Executive"
[2023/04/22 12:40] Gwyneth Llewelyn: The Chancellor is the Head of the Executive,
[2023/04/22 12:40] Moon Adamant: yes, ok
[2023/04/22 12:40] Gwyneth Llewelyn: and can nominate anyone to work with them I guess. So it's not an "official" Cabinet
[2023/04/22 12:40] Gwyneth Llewelyn: but as-official-as-it-gets, I suppose
[2023/04/22 12:40] Rosie Gray: perhaps if it was more defined we might get more volunteers
[2023/04/22 12:41] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me certainly agrees with that
[2023/04/22 12:41] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (as I did when Moon suggested The Cabinet long ago)
[2023/04/22 12:41] Almut Brunswick: Yes, Gwyn, and this is good under our special "short-handed" conditions because you can make the Exec team bigger or smaller depending on the volunteers
[2023/04/22 12:42] Moon Adamant: it's really important, as Rosie said and i totally concur, that it is clear that the executive role is too much for just one person
[2023/04/22 12:42] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Exactly, Almut — I totally agree... however, I also agree that "new" tasks (non-classic ones) should be placed on that document as well and make it official
[2023/04/22 12:42] Gwyneth Llewelyn: The Executive is a branch, the Chancellor is a role
[2023/04/22 12:42] Almut Brunswick: Nods. That is my actual point
[2023/04/22 12:43] Rosie Gray: the problemw ith making it official is that document has some things on it that shouldn't really be public
[2023/04/22 12:43] Almut Brunswick: It belongs to the role definition and - even more important - he/she should be enabled to play that role (or to delegate tasks properly)
[2023/04/22 12:43] Rosie Gray: but a derivative of it could be
[2023/04/22 12:43] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Oh... I see hehe
[2023/04/22 12:43] Almut Brunswick: Idea: Chancellorship is one volume, Exec tasks anouther
[2023/04/22 12:43] Moon Adamant: mind also that by stuffing the document too much it can be restrictive of furture exec actions
[2023/04/22 12:43] Almut Brunswick: like the EM one
[2023/04/22 12:44] Jerry McNally: (For the minutes, is this the document you're referring to? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NsOnU5Jrx8lV5EZu_bii1XB25-3aqaWUxrDXXl_TTMg/edit?usp=sharing )
[2023/04/22 12:44] Gwyneth Llewelyn: or the Treasurer one... right
[2023/04/22 12:44] Almut Brunswick: yes
[2023/04/22 12:44] Rosie Gray: yes it is
[2023/04/22 12:44] Almut Brunswick: so ... when the Chancellor decides to take over further parts of the Exec, he/she can look into the *other* instructions
[2023/04/22 12:45] Almut Brunswick: but a PIO or Social Media Officer etc. could do the same
[2023/04/22 12:45] Moon Adamant: one example: I really think that social media is a sort of 'daily news' on the CDS. So I am posting daily or almost daily -- but i would be very wary of imposing that on others
[2023/04/22 12:45] Rosie Gray: that person is meant to be appointed by the Chancellor and under their guidance
[2023/04/22 12:45] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Moon, I think that's a question of policy, not of law
[2023/04/22 12:45] Almut Brunswick: Yes, Rosie, I mean some official Exec hepler
[2023/04/22 12:45] Gwyneth Llewelyn: i.e. the Chancellor sets that policy
[2023/04/22 12:45] Moon Adamant: yes, it is
[2023/04/22 12:46] Rosie Gray: and I do take it back about making that doc public... looking again I don't see anything that couldn't be
[2023/04/22 12:46] Moon Adamant: and atm the doc has the law
[2023/04/22 12:46] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I mean, the *currently-elected* Chancellor sets up the policy :)
[2023/04/22 12:46] Moon Adamant: but are 'new tasks' teh law? or policy?
[2023/04/22 12:46] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Rosie, I was just going to say that! haha
[2023/04/22 12:46] Almut Brunswick: Yes, it doesn't change the relations between the Chancellor and other parts of the Exective
[2023/04/22 12:46] Rosie Gray: :D
[2023/04/22 12:46] Almut Brunswick: it is just clarifying technical tasks
[2023/04/22 12:46] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me was going to ask Rosie: "which parts are secret, since I cannot find them?"
[2023/04/22 12:47] Rosie Gray: well to be transparent there is a spreadsheet with all of the passwords on it and I was confusing the two
[2023/04/22 12:47] Almut Brunswick: where the brandy bottle is in the Chancellor's table
[2023/04/22 12:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Oh! Right! That should remain secret heheheheheh
[2023/04/22 12:47] Rosie Gray: hehe
[2023/04/22 12:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: lol Almut :)
[2023/04/22 12:47] Moon Adamant: it's vodka on the 38th term ㋡
[2023/04/22 12:47] Almut Brunswick: Anyway...I propose to think over it and to work on a solution
[2023/04/22 12:48] Almut Brunswick: We can discuss it in the Forum, so I would set up a thread
[2023/04/22 12:48] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Sounds reasonable to me :)
[2023/04/22 12:49] Almut Brunswick: It is not a game-changer, just something to improve in order to make taking offices like the Chancellor role a bit more convenient.
[2023/04/22 12:49] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me wonders if we shouldn't have something similar for all other roles... :)
[2023/04/22 12:49] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ok, disregard that!
[2023/04/22 12:49] Rosie Gray: lol
[2023/04/22 12:49] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Let's focus on the Chancellor
[2023/04/22 12:49] Almut Brunswick: In fact, we already have
[2023/04/22 12:49] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Good :)
[2023/04/22 12:49] Almut Brunswick: Ok....
[2023/04/22 12:49] Almut Brunswick: 5.1 SC Request for Retiring the CDSL 16-07 Scientific Council Affirmation Procedures Act
* Thread: https://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?t=10338&sid=b4008e075f7ca ... cbbaae96f3
[2023/04/22 12:50] Almut Brunswick: This is directly continuing the Q&A report.
[2023/04/22 12:50] Jerry McNally: /me likes the sound of retiring, to be honest
[2023/04/22 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (lol)
[2023/04/22 12:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Well, I definitely second the motion of retiring that law...
[2023/04/22 12:51] Almut Brunswick: Yes, and Lilith was so friendly to put the respective part of the Constitution in the thread. That makes it obvious enough.
[2023/04/22 12:52] Sandy Burgess: /me wonders if the sound of retirement is called tinitus or deafness
[2023/04/22 12:52] Almut Brunswick: So when we all in the RA are clear that the revised Constitution makes this extra Law surplus, especially because it contains deviating regulations to the Constitution, I follow the proposal to retire the law.
[2023/04/22 12:52] Jerry McNally: /me already has a "fun" relationship with tinnitus thanks Sandy!
[2023/04/22 12:52] Almut Brunswick: Just the sound of a dustbin cover.
[2023/04/22 12:52] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me seconds the proposal to retire the law
[2023/04/22 12:53] Jerry McNally: /me raises a hand
[2023/04/22 12:53] Almut Brunswick: Jerry please
[2023/04/22 12:53] Sandy Burgess: Sorry Jerry -did not want to prick in open wounds
[2023/04/22 12:53] Jerry McNally: haha no worries Sandy
[2023/04/22 12:54] Jerry McNally: I'm all for retiring this law, but I was wondering if we could send a message to the SC about maybe tidying up their Code of Procedure too, at https://cdsdemocracy.org/faqs/scientific-council-code-of-procedure/
[2023/04/22 12:54] Jerry McNally: as I think that might need a refresh as well
[2023/04/22 12:54] Jerry McNally: done
[2023/04/22 12:54] Jerry McNally: I mean *they* tidy it up, not us obviously
[2023/04/22 12:55] Rosie Gray: good point Jerry
[2023/04/22 12:55] Rosie Gray: it hasn't even bbeen updated since 2007, so I'm sure there are areas that should be addressed.
[2023/04/22 12:55] Jerry McNally: /me now wonders if the RA one needs to be looked at as well, and hopes he hasn't opened up a can of worms
[2023/04/22 12:55] Gwyneth Llewelyn: uh~-oh ....
[2023/04/22 12:55] Rosie Gray: /me hands jerry a hook for the worms to make them useful
[2023/04/22 12:56] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me *chuckles*
[2023/04/22 12:56] Moon Adamant: /me hands Jerry a fishing rod, a stool and a bucket
[2023/04/22 12:56] Almut Brunswick: Honestly, I was already thinking the same. I regarded the informal way of notifying us of their request to retire the law by Lilith during a Q&A session a bit *sporty*. In this respect, we could at least let them know our observations :D
[2023/04/22 12:56] Gwyneth Llewelyn: If I remember correctly, the RA also keeps 'forgetting' to send approved laws to the SC for review... :)
[2023/04/22 12:56] Sandy Burgess: On the next Q&A?
[2023/04/22 12:57] Almut Brunswick: This is definitely not the case, at least not in the past terms when I was the LRA
[2023/04/22 12:57] Gwyneth Llewelyn: /me *nods* I know, Almut — I meant in the distant past :) hehe
[2023/04/22 12:57] Jerry McNally: The last new law was "CDSL 34-02", the 34th term?
[2023/04/22 12:57] Almut Brunswick: No, we will formally notify the Dean of the SC
[2023/04/22 12:58] Rosie Gray: it was the case for years though since nobody seemed to remember that it was required and the SC always had a person present at the meetings so they knew about them anyway
[2023/04/22 12:58] Almut Brunswick: It was the LUC Law, when I remember correctly
[2023/04/22 12:58] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Well, I certainly agree with a formal notification
[2023/04/22 12:58] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Rosie: oh yes hehe
[2023/04/22 12:58] Gwyneth Llewelyn: The Dean Always Knows.
[2023/04/22 12:58] Jerry McNally: The walls have ears...
[2023/04/22 12:59] Rosie Gray: hehe
[2023/04/22 12:59] Gwyneth Llewelyn: They do! or, rather, open chat recorders
[2023/04/22 12:59] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Anyway
[2023/04/22 12:59] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I agree with Almut,
[2023/04/22 12:59] Almut Brunswick: and I remember we sent a couple of NCs back and forth, and the Forum was quite crowded with these notes as well. So maybe it was verbose at times, but that forgotten "shoe" doesn't fit here :D
