Paid Classifieds - A research

Post by Lilith Ivory »

As this term we have two agenda items in the LUC that look quite similar but need a completely different approach I decided to write down a summary about the task to review our paid classifieds and what we got so far.

The project started in January 2021

Delia noticed that if you do a place search 4 LMs come up for Neufreistadt, none for Alpine Meadow, none for the Confederation of Democratic Simulators, one for Colonia Nova, … Friedsee, what was in the past common land is now someone's parcel

The members at the LUC at this time agreed to research this problem.

[10:13] Sylvia Tamalyn: is that an issue with us or an issue with "search" itself, i wonder
[10:14] Sudane Erato: I think we should research this... there is a setting in About Land where you PAY to appear in search and maybe that is what Delia is seeing
[10:14] Sudane Erato: there are SO many ways to TP here... we should understand what we're doing. I certainly don't
[10:16] Sylvia Tamalyn: we need to know what current settings are, i guess, then go from there?

Rudeen pays L$30/wk per parcel that is listed in classifieds. It is about L$ 1200/month and is reported as a part of our advertising expenses. Sadly Rudeen transaction log does not itemize for which parcels we are paying.

As a next step Sylvia researched out paid classifieds and created a list:

Neufreistadt:
Markplatz http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/N ... 78/166/173
This link leads to a quite boring spot between city walls and church and should be replaced
Western Highway http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/N ... /6/195/172
Biergarten http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/N ... 00/200/178

Friedsee:
Common lands http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/F ... 45/103/108
Exact spot in search listing is on private land, but we are paying on the parcel just next door. Suggest changing search listing to show
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/F ... 44/108/109)

Alpine Meadow: none

Monastery:
Common land http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/M ... 129/128/47
Landmark lands you underwater near the waterfall. We were thinking about replacing it through:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/M ... 224/140/97

Locus Amoenus:
LA beach party http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/L ... s/20/94/23

Colonia Nova:
Forum http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/C ... /65/198/43
Via Luna http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/C ... a/92/34/31

Anzere:
Anzere Infohub: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Anzere/71/54/126
As the owner of the land is Governor Linden I doubt we are paying for that parcel. Which means there is still a public parcel we pay for without knowing which it is.

Moon has created a google doc from Sylvias list which we should use for further discussion
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sGD ... FA1nA/edit#

What really is important in my opinion is not only to decide if all paid listings are interesting enough to bring visitors but also to include key words in the descriptions like Democracy, Community, parcels for sale ….

At the meeting on Saturday I noted a couple of things on this topic. First... that Tor told me that he has gone through each and every one of the paid "presences on SL search" (these are not technically "Classifieds"... Classifieds are a different system by which you pay for visibility). What we are refereing to here are the checked boxes in About Land which say:

Show Place In Search (L$30/week)

Unfortunately, we do not have the list he was working from, so Tor will have to come up with that. The best we have is this:

Which does not seem complete. Now... at the meeting I volunteered to come up with the actual number of parcels that we currently have checked and are paying this fee for. We are currently paying L$300/week for this, meaning that we are paying on 10 parcels. The challenge is to ID which are those 10 parcels, and, if Tor didn't manage to reach any of those, get those straightened out too.

That linked list is probably the best place to start.

This list just received from Sylvia. the list is edited to replace Anzere with the Schloss, but includes original landing points... not as repaired by Tor.

Hi all!

Here are the 10 locations I found where we are paying for search listings.
