Call for RA Candidates

Post by Delia Lake »

Have you thought about joining the CDS Government? If so, now may be your time to stand for the RA!
For sixteen years citizens of the CDS have volunteered to help run our community, contributing their ideas and efforts to make sure all of the nuts and bolts issues are handled, and that together we work through possibilities and dreams that keep making the CDS a great place to be.

Our elected officers are 1 Chancellor and 5 members of the Representative Assembly (RA). During the regular autumn election period, three people declared their candidacy for the 5 seats on the Representative Assembly (RA)and took office as members of the 34th Term today. As specified by our CDS Constitution and Laws, we are holding a by-election in order to fill the remaining 2 seats.

The dates for the by-election are:
Dec. 1 - Call for candidates to declare for the RA
Dec. 7 - Last day to declare candidacy
Dec. 12 - Polls open
Dec. 18 - Polls close

Tor Karlsvalt declares as a candidate for the RA

Post by Delia Lake »

Tor Karlsvalt submitted this declaration to me in my position as Dean of the SC

Greetings Delia,

Please accept my application to stand for the Representative Assembly.

I am a citizen of some years and in good standing. For the record, I have lived in CDS with uninterrupted residency since January 2010. Since then I have served four terms as Chancellor and a number of terms in the RA.

My waterfront parcel in LA is riverfront and not along the sim edge or either the outer or inner harbor.

I have no conflicts of interest. I own two mainland parcels, one at Tordangle and the other at Vittersonus, the latter having been my home prior to joining CDS. I rent a small berth for a boat at SL New England. I have no business interests in Second Life.

I consider it an honor to serve on the RA and offer my time to the project we all hold so dearly: The Confederation of Democratic Simulators.
This is what I believe:

  • --CDS should have a fully constituted and functioning RA.

--Viewpoints of all Citizen matter and they should know that there are people who care to listen.

--CDS is a community that enjoys having our lands reflect the talents, ideas and labor of involved residents. It is more than a residence, it is an evolving community of friends who learn skills from each other.

--Serving the Estate is an honor.

--Important Decisions on the direction of the CDS should be vetted, reasonable and voted upon by the RA.

--CDS should pursue, after careful consideration, a connection point to the mainland via Linden water. The RA should accomplish this connection with minimal cost and acquisition of any connection region and that only if absolutely necessary. Finally the connection should allow for Locus Amoenus to be the harbor for the CDS. This goal should be planned without any rush to judgment or feeling that it must happen immediately.

--The connection to the mainland should be on terms set forth by CDS because our community offers value to SL and is a historically significant early community.

i am sure there is more to this than I can say now or is appropriate for this request.

Respectfully,

Tor Karslvalt

Thank you so much to Tor for stepping up into the RA again!

I am wondering what happens now, since we don't have 5 members acclaimed for the RA? :?

I gather that the RA can run with 4, but it seems to me that a second by-election in January might be called for.

I know it will be likely difficult to find another candidate for the RA to complete the round of 5, but I personally regard a by-election as inevitable.

I don't know right now what the Code of Laws says in this respect, but it needs to be checked as soon as possible.

Hi Almut.

That was my original opinion. The argument on the other side seems to be that it will give citizens the idea that they can wait until the by-election to declare.

While I stil share your view, the issue is now moot. The SC decided that the RA is legal with 4 members. It should be in the minutes of their last meeting.
