Election Results -23rd RA and Chancellor

Post by Callipygian »

Thank you to all candidates who stood for a position in government at these elections. 48 votes were cast, 64% of qualified voters.

The 23rd Representative Assembly is:

Rosie Gray, Mothercard Warden, Guillaume Mistwalker, Nick Mammoth and Han Held.

The election for Chancellor resulted in a tie, each candidate receiving 24 votes. Our Constitution and Laws have no mechanism in place to address a tie vote; while everything from a coin toss to knife fighting or pudding wrestling in the Forum was suggested as a solution, none of those would provide a clear winner of the Chancellorship, based on the desire of the citizens.

The two candidates, Roguegeek Cooperstone and Trebor Warcliffe have agreed to a repolling of the Citizen List, after a public debate, to seek a clear winner based on votes. The April Citizen List will provide the list of qualified voters; no additional candidates will be allowed to declare. It is hoped that the need to give a clear mandate will encourage all qualified voters to exercise their franchise in this second polling. A second polling also allows us to establish how to break a resulting tie, should it occur again, *before* polling begins.

The debate is scheduled for Wednesday May 20th at 3 PM SLT.

Details on the debate format and on the process and dates of the second polling will be announced as soon as possible.

People often say that, in a democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people. Of course, that is not true. Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote -- a very different thing.
