NG meeting - 19Feb2011 - Transcript

Post by Moon Adamant »

[9:26] Moon Adamant: please remember that the NG meetings are recorded
[9:26] Moon Adamant: as for agenda, we do not have an agenda today, but I would like to address the pending Heads of Department election
[9:27] Moon Adamant: as you know (or not)
[9:27] Moon Adamant: the current Heads are Sudane for Financial and Rose for Admin
[9:29] Moon Adamant: I will have to wait another week before calling the election
[9:29] Moon Adamant: more on that when I know more .)
[9:29] Moon Adamant: Moving on to other matters
[9:29] Moon Adamant: last meeting we discussed mainly the bordering sims to NFS
[9:30] Moon Adamant: and Schloss
[9:30] Gwyneth Llewelyn: More correctly, the way we can prevent the visual issues on neighbouring sims...
[9:30] Moon Adamant: I asked Guillaume to let me know how much space would be needed for an airstrip
[9:30] Moon Adamant: ah, yes, that too
[9:30] Rosie Gray: and I have an update on that
[9:30] Moon Adamant: Guillaume, this notecard is mor ethan i expected!
[9:30] Gwyneth Llewelyn: re: airstrip — Now you have a notecard with it, Moon :)
[9:30] Gwyneth Llewelyn: hehe
[9:30] Moon Adamant: thanks a lot :)
[9:30] Rosie Gray: the bordering sims I mean
[9:30] Rosie Gray: view
[9:31] Gwyneth Llewelyn: The references of other airstrips in SL is very useful!
[9:31] Moon Adamant: Can this be published on our forums, to start a thread on having an airport sim?
[9:31] Moon Adamant: it is a very good doc
[9:32] Rosie Gray: may I see it?
[9:32] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I'm impresssed at the level of detail the airplane fans are going.... does this mean that modern SL airplanes can really use instruments to land?? Do we need to provide specially scrpted objects for that??
[9:33] Rosie Gray: thanks Guill
[9:34] Gwyneth Llewelyn: That notecard is an education!
[9:34] Rosie Gray: wow
[9:34] Rosie Gray: indeed, good research!
[9:34] Gwyneth Llewelyn: "Everything you wished to know about air stripsbut were afraid to ask"
[9:35] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I agree — thanks a lot, GuI!
[9:35] Guillaume Mistwalker: Back
[9:35] Guillaume Mistwalker: Welcome ㋡
[9:35] Rosie Gray: haha, he wasn't even here to hear our admiration of the research
[9:35] Gwyneth Llewelyn: lol
[9:35] Moon Adamant: :)
[9:35] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I hope he can scroll back though...
[9:35] Gwyneth Llewelyn: if not mmmh
[9:35] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I had a question about automated landings.
[9:35] Rosie Gray: hehe
[9:35] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Does that require specially scripted objects?
[9:36] Guillaume Mistwalker: And actually, most SL planes operate by visual, but it's the Instrument runways markings that help, too
[9:36] Guillaume Mistwalker: I did read above, and no, it does not
[9:36] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Can we buy them or are there some specs to develop the scripts?
[9:36] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ok
[9:36] Moon Adamant: ok
[9:36] Moon Adamant: Guil
[9:36] Guillaume Mistwalker: Most aircraft run simply on visual sight
[9:36] Moon Adamant: i had asked while you were afk
[9:36] Guillaume Mistwalker: Yes, ma'am?
[9:37] Moon Adamant: can I publish this on the forums to start a thread for discussion on an airport sim?
[9:37] Moon Adamant: not today lol
[9:38] Rosie Gray pinches hereself to see if she's still here
[9:39] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I think you are!
[9:39] Rosie Gray: hmmm
[9:39] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Gui's body is here, but his mind is flying.... lol
[9:39] Moon Adamant: well, let me know later
[9:39] Moon Adamant: :)
[9:39] Moon Adamant: ok...
[9:39] Moon Adamant: i will have to read this more carefully later too
[9:39] Rosie Gray: would you like to hear my report about the view?
[9:39] Moon Adamant: as my brain is a bit stopped atm :)
[9:39] Rosie Gray: awh
[9:39] Moon Adamant: yes, your report next, please
[9:40] Guillaume Mistwalker: sorry, went to get the food
[9:40] Guillaume Mistwalker: and yes, it is ok
[9:40] Rosie Gray: okay, well I went and had a look at some excellent off-sim mountain range kits
[9:40] Rosie Gray: tried a sample of one, but it presented some problems... however they really are quite spectacular
[9:41] Rosie Gray: and would improve the view from the CDS side as well
[9:41] Moon Adamant: ok, that would be an option indeed
[9:41] Moon Adamant: i know what you mean
[9:41] Rosie Gray: in fact, I'd like to recommend that we consider putting them all around the sim borders
[9:41] Moon Adamant: or at least, i have seen similar stuff to do off-coast rock formations... must be something similar
[9:42] Moon Adamant: what are the issues you found?
[9:42] Rosie Gray: yes, but they extend for complete sides of sims, or even surrounding an entire sim
[9:42] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Are they megaprims? :)
[9:42] Rosie Gray: the issues are mainly with the changes of height on NFS
[9:42] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ah!....
[9:42] Rosie Gray: I assume they are megaprims, sculpted
[9:42] Gwyneth Llewelyn *nods*
[9:42] Rosie Gray: perhaps if we took a field trip I could show you
[9:43] Rosie Gray: ㋡
[9:43] Gwyneth Llewelyn: So we'de need many, at different heights
[9:43] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Oh... hehe
[9:43] Rosie Gray: well, that's not how they work
[9:43] Rosie Gray: so they would require adapting
[9:43] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I see hmm :D
[9:43] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ok...
[9:43] Rosie Gray: they are huge
[9:43] Guillaume Mistwalker: Or custom ones, no?
[9:43] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Hm. How can they be "adapted"?
[9:43] Rosie Gray: and to be honest, I think that we need them to be modifyable
[9:43] Rosie Gray: which they are not
[9:44] Moon Adamant: are they linksets?
[9:44] Moon Adamant: AH
[9:44] Moon Adamant: ok
[9:44] Moon Adamant: got you
[9:44] Rosie Gray: well yes they are, like the offshore little islands
[9:44] Moon Adamant: yes, but if no mod....
[9:44] Rosie Gray: but because we have such extremes in elevation, it presents specially problems
[9:44] Rosie Gray: I wonder if commissioning special ones would be doable
[9:44] Moon Adamant: if mod, we could always push one here, pull another there...
[9:44] Rosie Gray: yes indeed Moon
[9:45] Rosie Gray: and add a bit here and there
[9:45] Moon Adamant: maybe
[9:45] Moon Adamant: hmmm
[9:45] Rosie Gray: but really, you need to see them first
[9:45] Moon Adamant: ok
[9:45] Rosie Gray: I can rez the sample I have now, if you want
[9:45] Guillaume Mistwalker: Perhaps contact the maker and ask if they can make ones to fit our altitudes?
[9:45] Moon Adamant: oooh, great
[9:45] Moon Adamant: yes please
[9:45] Guillaume Mistwalker: indeed please ㋡
[9:45] Rosie Gray: there are 2 places that make them, the best ones didn't have samples
[9:45] Rosie Gray: okay, just a moment
[9:46] Rosie Gray: found it... I'll rez off this side
[9:46] Gwyneth Llewelyn just wonders how we can save them for the Content Archivist avatar :)
[9:46] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I guess the CA avatar coiuld buy it on behalf of the CDS
[9:46] Guillaume Mistwalker: we woulfd need trans/mod, no?
[9:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: wow this is huge lol
[9:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I see most of it, not all yet lol
[9:47] Rosie Gray: it's still rezzing for me
[9:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: It looks nice!
[9:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: When it fully rezzes
[9:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: theoretically, yes, Gui
[9:48] Moon Adamant: it's lovely done
[9:48] Moon Adamant: now, this is curious
[9:48] Rosie Gray: the other place had even nicer ones, and I think were more adaptable
[9:48] Rosie Gray: but no demos
[9:48] Moon Adamant: this could sort out a lot of appearance issues
[9:48] Guillaume Mistwalker: I still see ocean...\
[9:48] Moon Adamant: let me check the lag
[9:49] Rosie Gray: yes good idea
[9:49] Rosie Gray: I was wondering about that too
[9:49] Gwyneth Llewelyn: very nice indeed!
[9:49] Moon Adamant: no lag
[9:49] Gwyneth Llewelyn: :)
[9:49] Moon Adamant: i am getting 33 fps while looking at them from above
[9:49] Moon Adamant: because they make 3 sims
[9:49] Moon Adamant: let me look from the street level
[9:49] Gwyneth Llewelyn: It's very very convincing
[9:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: yes.... it looks like it, Moon... very curious :)
[9:50] Moon Adamant: lol, our streets are a mess
[9:50] Rosie Gray: I've tried to manipulate it into place, but it doesn't fit
[9:50] Rosie Gray: so I won't bother this time
[9:50] Moon Adamant: fps down to 24 :P
[9:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Well Rosie, I definitely love the idea!
[9:50] Moon Adamant: but the effect is great
[9:50] Moon Adamant: yes, me too
[9:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: 24... sheesh... I'm lucky if I get 4 in NFS! hahaha
[9:50] Moon Adamant: just let me see one thing more
[9:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ok! Speaking for myself.... this gets my vote!!!
[9:51] Moon Adamant: don't buy Macs :P
[9:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I'm impressed :D
[9:51] Rosie Gray: lol
[9:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: pfft Moon
[9:51] Rosie Gray: okay I'll take it back
[9:51] Rosie Gray: oh by the way, this texture is the demo texture
[9:51] Guillaume Mistwalker: Wait...!
[9:51] Moon Adamant: ok, this is quite good, because
[9:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: really...! wow
[9:51] Rosie Gray: they give you one without seams when you buy
[9:51] Guillaume Mistwalker: Oh wow... it is nice from the inside...
[9:51] Moon Adamant: ah, thus the checkered effect
[9:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: very nice indeed, Gui, I agree :D
[9:51] Moon Adamant: BUT
[9:51] Moon Adamant: the nice thing is
[9:51] Moon Adamant: my draw distance is 256
[9:52] Moon Adamant: i am a builder, so i need to see the whole sim I am at
[9:52] Moon Adamant: this means that no matter how much I twist the camera and try to look as far as i can get
[9:53] Moon Adamant: i couldn't see the underside of teh sculpts
[9:53] Rosie Gray: really?
[9:53] Moon Adamant: of course, we had a gap, but we know why is that
[9:53] Moon Adamant: yes
[9:53] Rosie Gray: they didn't fully rez for me this time
[9:53] Rosie Gray: but did before, when I did the first time
[9:53] Moon Adamant: atm, my camera is looking at NFS from far beyond the E border .)
[9:53] Rosie Gray: ah right
[9:54] Moon Adamant: solves the filling issues
[9:54] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Can I challenge you, Rosie? Take two pictures from a specific location in NFS, one with those 'fake' mountains, another with clear sky. Even if they don't cover things perfectly, they really should give an idea... and post them on the forums :D
[9:54] Moon Adamant: solves the 'we want higher mountains' issue
[9:54] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Yes... I think so too, Moon!
[9:54] Gwyneth Llewelyn: How much do they cost, Rosie?
[9:54] Rosie Gray: you mean with the demo?
[9:54] Gwyneth Llewelyn: yes!
[9:55] Gwyneth Llewelyn: even the demo is good enough :)
[9:55] Rosie Gray: well they vary
[9:55] Moon Adamant: we will need to find out is why Roise couldn't lower the demo
[9:55] Moon Adamant: Rosie*
[9:55] Rosie Gray: well I think I know why
[9:55] Moon Adamant: so this is great
[9:55] Rosie Gray: I spent much longer when I rezzed it before, playing around with it
[9:55] Gwyneth Llewelyn: heh. How much does the cheapest one cost, and how much the most expensive one? :) It's just that we can give the Exec a budget....
[9:55] Moon Adamant: exactly
[9:55] Rosie Gray: do you want to take a few minutes and go seem the demonstrations in place?
[9:56] Moon Adamant: buying cost and time to install
[9:56] Gwyneth Llewelyn: mm hmm
[9:56] Rosie Gray: they are so large, that it bumps into the real SL land
[9:56] Moon Adamant: Rosie, I am sorry
[9:56] Rosie Gray: and you know how it prevents you from going too far below
[9:56] Rosie Gray: they vary from $1200L to $300L
[9:56] Rosie Gray: $3000L rather
[9:57] Moon Adamant: i am quite tired, so I'd really like this meeting to be quick
[9:57] Rosie Gray: okay Moon
[9:57] Moon Adamant: i can go tehre with you from tuesday on
[9:57] Moon Adamant: ok, price is perfectly acceptable
[9:57] Rosie Gray: I agree that it could really answer the mountain issue, just for a view
[9:58] Guillaume Mistwalker: So, we're looking at mod/copy?
[9:58] Rosie Gray: no they are not mod copy
[9:58] Moon Adamant: oh completely
[9:58] Moon Adamant: well, we would only need mod, actually
[9:58] Moon Adamant: or mod/transfer
[9:58] Guillaume Mistwalker: Are we building them on side at a time?
[9:58] Moon Adamant: we could buy the several sets
[9:59] Guillaume Mistwalker: *one
[9:59] Rosie Gray: It would take some experimenting I think
[9:59] Moon Adamant: yes, of course
[9:59] Rosie Gray: buy 1 and see how it works first
[9:59] Moon Adamant: and that time would be paid
[9:59] Gwyneth Llewelyn: yes... and some help from the creator perhaps
[9:59] Rosie Gray: yes
[9:59] Guillaume Mistwalker: Indeed.
[9:59] Rosie Gray: if they are willing
[9:59] Moon Adamant: but ok, we can make that part of the proposal to Exec
[9:59] Rosie Gray: I will ask
[9:59] Gwyneth Llewelyn: make them honorary citizens :D
[9:59] Guillaume Mistwalker: Haha, yes!
[10:00] Moon Adamant: a text phase, in which we buy 1 set, experiment, detect any issues, talk to builder
[10:00] Moon Adamant: tezt*
[10:00] Gwyneth Llewelyn: yes
[10:00] Moon Adamant: lol
[10:00] Rosie Gray: yes
[10:00] Moon Adamant: test*
[10:00] Rosie Gray: should I buy one and play around with it?
[10:00] Moon Adamant: sorry, i don't generally type like this :P
[10:00] Rosie Gray: I'm thinking one of the $1200L ones, to start
[10:00] Moon Adamant: well, Rosie
[10:01] Moon Adamant: let's do a plan and budget first
[10:01] Moon Adamant: we know how much the test set costs
[10:01] Guillaume Mistwalker: Well, my concern is that aren't they generally 4 sided?
[10:01] Guillaume Mistwalker: Ah, ok
[10:01] Rosie Gray: they vary Guillaume
[10:01] Moon Adamant: even if very simple
[10:01] Moon Adamant: let's assign a number of hours for testing
[10:01] Rosie Gray: you can get 1 sim sided
[10:01] Rosie Gray: corners, and whole sims
[10:01] Gwyneth Llewelyn *nods* very flexible :D
[10:01] Moon Adamant: that's the test budget
[10:01] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Oh.. and can we get them in winter and spring textures????
[10:01] Guillaume Mistwalker: And if we have high mountains, and then foothills --say, around AM -- do they vary in size and look similar?
[10:02] Moon Adamant: i can write it later with your help
[10:02] Rosie Gray: the other place without the demos
[10:02] Guillaume Mistwalker: It is exciting, yes ㋡
[10:02] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Sorry... I should shut up... but this is exciting hehe
[10:02] Rosie Gray: has trees on the sides too, and you can change them for seasons
[10:02] Guillaume Mistwalker: Ahhhh!!!
[10:02] Moon Adamant: then after the testing, we tell the Exec how much will cost to buy and place the sets
[10:02] Gwyneth Llewelyn: oh yay :)
[10:02] Gwyneth Llewelyn: that would be *perfect*, Rosie!
[10:02] Guillaume Mistwalker: That's great! ㋡
[10:03] Moon Adamant: ehehe hope the trees won't lag :)
[10:03] Gwyneth Llewelyn: yes hehe
[10:03] Gwyneth Llewelyn: hopefully not..:!
[10:03] Rosie Gray: well I think we need to try 1 anyway
[10:03] Gwyneth Llewelyn: yes, we do....
[10:03] Moon Adamant: so i'll do this
[10:03] Moon Adamant: yes, we do
[10:03] Guillaume Mistwalker: On questionmore, will we do this before or after we have that new sim?
[10:03] Moon Adamant: Rosie
[10:03] Moon Adamant: i will start a Gdocs for this and share with you
[10:04] Rosie Gray: okay
[10:04] Moon Adamant: we'll put a rationale and the rest of teh data
[10:04] Moon Adamant: and then share it with Exec as well
[10:04] Guillaume Mistwalker: Will this be a higher priority to be finished than NFS W?
[10:04] Moon Adamant: Guil: this can be done in a couple of weeks
[10:04] Rosie Gray: much faster than an entire sim
[10:04] Moon Adamant: our experience is that a full sim project takes between 3 and 6 months
[10:05] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Aye, sadly so...
[10:05] Moon Adamant: depending on the amount of arguing at teh forums :P
[10:05] Gwyneth Llewelyn: heh !
[10:05] Rosie Gray: lol
[10:05] Guillaume Mistwalker: Aye, my only concern is that we will have to have a follow-up with the creator, but that's personally fine, imho
[10:05] Moon Adamant: i am being serious
[10:05] Gwyneth Llewelyn: But Moon is right...
[10:05] Rosie Gray: btw, I have to thank Callipgyian for pointing me at those sim-surrounds
[10:06] Moon Adamant: thanks to Calli indeed :)
[10:06] Moon Adamant: in any case, Guil
[10:06] Moon Adamant: there is a specific need to cover up the angles of view from the other sims
[10:06] Rosie Gray nods
[10:06] Guillaume Mistwalker: Aye
[10:06] Moon Adamant: so we address taht right now
[10:07] Rosie Gray: it will improve from all sides... hopefully
[10:07] Moon Adamant: and then go on planning
[10:07] Moon Adamant: when we are ready to insert the new sim
[10:07] Moon Adamant: as these mountain sculpts can be moved
[10:07] Moon Adamant: we'll move them
[10:07] Gwyneth Llewelyn: aye... they might be even re-usable
[10:07] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I men, placed elsewhere
[10:07] Moon Adamant: teh test phase will also tell us the flexibility when doing that
[10:07] Gwyneth Llewelyn: *mean
[10:07] Rosie Gray: you I should think so
[10:07] Gwyneth Llewelyn: right!
[10:08] Moon Adamant: ok, great work Rosie
[10:08] Guillaume Mistwalker: Of course, it was just a question
[10:08] Moon Adamant: this is mor ethan i expected!
[10:08] Moon Adamant: i was already imagining a lot of sculpt work being done, etc
[10:08] Rosie Gray: so was I
[10:09] Rosie Gray: lol
[10:09] Rosie Gray: but if this works, it will be better
[10:09] Moon Adamant: let's be grateful towardsw the very creative people who make these things :))
[10:09] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I was thinking that we could certainly *do* something, but never look nowhere as good as this...
[10:09] Gwyneth Llewelyn: oh yes Moon!
[10:09] Rosie Gray: ㋡
[10:09] Moon Adamant: oh, i could never do something as nice as this
[10:10] Rosie Gray: it's quite a specialty!
[10:10] Rosie Gray gave you 2nd Magic Store.
[10:10] Rosie Gray gave you Landscapes Unlimited - Sim Surrounds.
[10:10] Moon Adamant: at least until I take my 3DMax course ;)
[10:10] Gwyneth Llewelyn: There is a manual procedure for doing these things in SL, but it requires an empty sim... you model the sim... then get the terrain file out of the sim... export it to a sculpty texture
[10:10] Rosie Gray: those are the 2 places
[10:10] Moon Adamant: thanks :)
[10:10] Gwyneth Llewelyn: That works, but takes a lot of time AND needs a whole empty sim :(
[10:11] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Thanks for the landmarks!
[10:11] Moon Adamant: ok
[10:11] Rosie Gray: and for thenotes: 2nd Magic Store
[10:11] Rosie Gray: and Landscapes Unlimited - Sim Surrounds
[10:11] Moon Adamant: thanks
[10:11] Moon Adamant: ok
[10:12] Moon Adamant: Schloss
[10:12] Moon Adamant: for teh reord too
[10:12] Guillaume Mistwalker: Oh yes...
[10:12] Moon Adamant: record*
[10:12] Guillaume Mistwalker gave you Ideas for the NFS Schloss.
[10:12] Moon Adamant: We are waiting for the specs from teh Exec
[10:12] Moon Adamant: ah, thanks Guillaume
[10:13] Guillaume Mistwalker: Indeed, I've submitted my draft to Tor
[10:13] Moon Adamant: i know lol
[10:13] Guillaume Mistwalker: We're just waiting on a meeting to discuss them
[10:13] Moon Adamant: so we now wait for the specs
[10:13] Rosie Gray: is this replacing the old document about the Schloss?
[10:13] Moon Adamant: the GDocs?
[10:13] Rosie Gray: yes
[10:14] Moon Adamant: no, that's a discussion doc only
[10:14] Moon Adamant: though the rationale has already been approved and published
[10:14] Rosie Gray nods
[10:14] Moon Adamant: what we will do next is
[10:14] Moon Adamant: we get the specs and we budget
[10:14] Moon Adamant: that is quick
[10:15] Moon Adamant: lots of experience in doing building budgets :P
[10:15] Moon Adamant: pass the budget to Exec again
[10:15] Moon Adamant: when they approve - maybe we should expect some discussion -
[10:15] Rosie Gray: yay!
[10:15] Moon Adamant: we start building
[10:15] Rosie Gray laughs
[10:16] Gwyneth Llewelyn reads Gui's second notecard hehe
[10:16] Gwyneth Llewelyn: you've been busy!
[10:16] Gwyneth Llewelyn: ah wait, I have read this
[10:16] Gwyneth Llewelyn: ㋡
[10:16] Rosie Gray: ermh... I don't see a throne-room in these specs
[10:16] Gwyneth Llewelyn: We don't have monarchy (yet!!!!) so we don't need the throne room haha
[10:16] Moon Adamant: uh oh
[10:16] Gwyneth Llewelyn: (just joking!)
[10:16] Moon Adamant: yes
[10:16] Moon Adamant: actually Rose
[10:17] Guillaume Mistwalker: Haha, exactly Gwyn
[10:17] Rosie Gray: well not for active monarchy
[10:17] Moon Adamant: the old throne room caused a lot of polemic
[10:17] Gwyneth Llewelyn *giggles*
[10:17] Moon Adamant: hmmm
[10:17] Moon Adamant: how many years ago, Gwyn?
[10:17] Rosie Gray: but, you wouldn't have a Schloss without one, roped off museum-like
[10:17] Gwyneth Llewelyn *scratches head*
[10:17] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I know, I know hehe
[10:17] Guillaume Mistwalker: Schloss der Volk
[10:17] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I don't remember when that was, Moon, but I remember it created some polemic indeed hehe
[10:17] Moon Adamant: roped-off museum -like can work
[10:18] Gwyneth Llewelyn *nods*
[10:18] Guillaume Mistwalker: Aye
[10:18] Moon Adamant: you see Rosie, teh issue with the old one - or part of teh issue
[10:18] Guillaume Mistwalker: Perhaps preserve the throne room we have now, and keep it as a museum?
[10:18] Moon Adamant: was maynbe because it wasn't roped-off museum-like :)
[10:18] Rosie Gray: it's not good enough to preserve
[10:18] Rosie Gray: in my opinion
[10:18] Moon Adamant: i agree with Rosie
[10:18] Rosie Gray: and also would interfere with the new build
[10:18] Moon Adamant: and actually, i do not know if we have full perms on it
[10:18] Guillaume Mistwalker: Well, keep the same isea, but redo it, renovate it
[10:19] Guillaume Mistwalker: *idea
[10:19] Moon Adamant: you see
[10:19] Moon Adamant: whenwe can, we must strive to have perms on stuff
[10:19] Guillaume Mistwalker: Of course
[10:19] Rosie Gray: I agree completely
[10:19] Moon Adamant: when we have to buy content like the mountains... we know we won't get teh full perms
[10:19] Gwyneth Llewelyn: oh yes :P
[10:19] Gwyneth Llewelyn: definitely...
[10:20] Moon Adamant: but it's a deal there
[10:20] Gwyneth Llewelyn *nods* @ Moon
[10:20] Guillaume Mistwalker: Especially in Kendra's case, no...?

[10:24] Moon Adamant: and in fact the last minutes have been rather personal

[10:24] Gwyneth Llewelyn: unless we wish to commemorate Kendra with a Memorial Day :)
[10:24] Rosie Gray: that's a rather nice idea
[10:25] Gwyneth Llewelyn: but that's not for the Guild to decide, IMHO
[10:25] Guillaume Mistwalker: My apologies, and I admit to never knowing her, but she has definitely reached mythic stature here

If you are considering adding an airport on an existing sim (NFS??) we need to modify that sim's covenat. As we are currently in the process of rewriting covenants, now is a good time to suggest changes. So ... post to the forum, come to a meeting or drop me a notecard.

As best as I can understand, NFS is a Medieval German "style" build and the Alpine Meadow and Monastery (Germany/Switzerland/Austria Alps) covenants limit builds to pre-industrial material. Colonia Nova is Germay in about 100-300 AD and LA is maybe Italy with a southern Greek port ??, which would also make it early AD something.

Hello Fern :)

The airport would be placed at a new sim - this idea appeared when we were discussing an issue about Neufreistadt-West (the sim west to Neufreistadt). That sim poses a particular problem - you may have read about that on the transcript of the previous meeting. The issue is that we have a grand bridge in NFS that leads to... nowhere:) So we must create a somewhere in NFS-W, so that the bridge makes complete sense.
So there is no issue about altering existing covenants to frame an airport, which I am sure will be good news for the Covenant Team :) Thanks a lot about the warning, though :)

As for existing covenants, I am not very familiar with the NFS covenant, which was written when I wasn't in the CDS. But I know that the intention of the founders was to have a post-modernist German style, incorporating a large presence of historic styles (such as Schloss, Rathaus, most of inner city structures, etc). But for example, at some point we had some very specific 1920s builds at the Aldenstadt area - and of course, the MoCA is a post-modern build.
I am not sure if the NFS covenant still has specific wording about this. As to the other sims, you are right - there is a preference for pre-industrial materials, specially, of course, in the Roman sims.
And thank you very much for the invite to the covenant discussion :) I think you meet outside of my SL hours, though, but I'll drop by if ever I am in-world and free! :))

Cheers and thanks! :)

Hi Moon,

Thanks for the clarification on the new airport. I do know the bridge that goes to nowhere :)

The covenant for NFS looks a bit problematic, so thanks also for the info on that. There is nothing in the About Land tab referencing the time period of the build but the covenant on the CDS Portal says that NFS is ..." a Medieval Germanic style." I'll take a look at the older Guild posts. Anybody else with info, please post or contact me inworld.
