A Fish[ing Village] not called Wanda ...

Post by Pip Torok »

We broke a CDS tradition the other day, albeit unconsciously, when we, the LUC, decided to build a village as an adjunct to our Region.

Normally, when we expand, we order up a sim, which entails giving this sim a unique name, for LL, and an identification for us.

Here we decided to build an adjunct onto an existing (and named) Colonia Nova, which was to be a Fishing Village.

But no fishing village anywhere exists without a name, so the LUC asked me to look up a selection of present-day authentic Italian village names. Can we ask citizens to mull over, and then to come up with, their preferred choice for the LUC to propose at our next meeting?

Here they are :

Alassio (from Liguria)
Viareggio
Palmi (from Calabria)
Ordsei (from Sardinia)
Barolo (from Piedmont)
Mondovi (from Piedmont)

plus of course any more names you might know of, the shorter the better, please …

I await the deluge ! :D

I dunno, Pip, I kind of like the idea of a fishing village called Wanda.

I’m with Sylvia LOL

Seriously I’ll take a look at the map of Italy and get back to you.

But for right now it’s name is Wanda.

OK here’s my proposal.

Leuca.
It’s at the end Italy’s heel. Thus closer to Greece, possibly explaining our Greek taverna.
Plus it pays homage to our LUC.

It has a grotto, which we might consider adding.

What about Speranza? It means hope. We hope to improve the region to catch some more residents...
I think a fisher is dependent on hope, you need a bit of luck for this activity. We all hope to live good lifes, first or second anyway.
When there is no hope, you better leave. But where to? Come to Speranza... :D

Oh I like that, Tan. I've always thought that the Spanish "Esperanza" is a pretty name.

Glad you like it, Sylvia! Maybe we could use the prefix with it, would be La Speranza then. A lot of restaurants are called like that ;)

During the LUC meeting today, we voted to recommend to the Chancellor that La Speranza be the name of the new fishing village!

Sorry I am far too late but i didnt see this before! Pip asked me time ago as he wanted to call it Stella and I suggested Stella Marina (starfish) which would sound good - many villages/towns have the word Marina. I thought he would suggest that with the LUC but he must have forgotten... :(
Please not La Speranza - it sort of sounds silly in Italian.A really ugly name...sorry. Nobody would call a town like that- And not a real village like leuca or viareggio - this is an imaginary village.
if it has to be hope (which I really dont like anyway) let it be the spanish word Esperanza at least - sounds better. Please.

At last I have figured out what La Speranza makes me think of. A charity hostel for the homeless run by nuns.
Seriously. Please reconsider.

We will have to discuss what you've said, Laura. If it sounds too silly to an Italian speaker, then I think we need to pay attention.

Thank you Rosie. I was appalled when I saw that name. Sorry for not seeing that before, but I did think that someone would have asked the only Italian speaker you have at CDS before going ahead. Which nobody did - apart from Pip long ago, but then he seems to have forgotten/ignored what I said. I confess I did feel a bit hurt about it.
Wanda is a bit of a silly name too but at least there is a fun joke behnd it, which is nice. I still do think that Stella Marina would be a gorgeous name for it, but oh well. At this point anything that does not sound like a charity hostel for the homeless (could also be for abused children and/or single mothers LOL) will do.
