Press Your Ear to the Track.....Hear the Train?

Post by JerryDon Lane »

If you truly have a love for CDS and the people who comprise our community, you must be at the very least, exhibiting some exuberance as we enter the fall festivities. What an exciting time this is for both the newcomer and the long-term citizen of CDS. And what a pleasure it is for me personally to serve with this excellent Chancellor who has provided the broad-brush outline for a series of events unlike anything previously undertaken by SL residents in the history of the virtual world.

My thanks further go to the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for providing support, guidance, technical advice on a moment’s notice and also an adequate budget to pull off this mega-party. Couple these actions with a most competent staff of team-work minded PIOs, many talented volunteers from the community who donate their valuable time for the benefit of the residents, and it becomes quite obvious what a massive team effort this has become and will continue to be as it unfolds.

This mega-party will evolve and pick up steam and will continue over the course of about 8 weeks until it’s heading down the track leaving only vapor and pleasant memories in its trail.

Our official birthday is September 20th as this is the date that our founding Mothers and Fathers acquired our initial property in Anzere. However, there are other notable Fall dates as outlined and suggested by the Chancellor.

In July of 2004, Haney Linden launched a project for communities wishing to preserve the snow sims from which our community was founded, and that proposal was approved on September 12th, 2004. So here is another important date germane to our community historically, and it is the date the party begins.

Of course, Oktoberfest also begins during this period and we will ease right into it, grab the German bull by its horns and wrestle it right into parade with the CDS birthday celebration.

Then we will finish this festival on November 17th with the celebration of the founding of our provisional government.

As one can see from this illustration, establishing such a tedious schedule in one fell swoop would be difficult to manage, would be ever in flux and might be difficult for the reader to keep up with.

So, keeping that in mind and also the relatively short period of time the new PIO office has had to tussle into organization such a major undertaking, we approached this challenge logistically.

The celebration is divided into 4, 2 week quarter sections, and will be posted as quarter 1 events calendar, quarter 2 events calendar, etc. as we march our way gleefully through what will hopefully be a well-managed Fall festival.

I have good news. The word is now out. The SL Newser, the SL Enquirer and other major SL news media services have been advised of what we are doing. A press release has been prepared to go out to all major bloggers that might give us some press coverage. The word is starting now to spread.

So, start shopping now for your lederhosen before we approach the latter part of September and the stores are sold out. Break out the party hats and the paper whistles. Arrange a babysitter for the prim kids and make sure that security orb is on in the skydome because you won’t be there. You’ll be out partying for the better part of the next two months with your friends, your neighbors, the new residents of CDS and many people from all walks of second life and from all around the grid. Don't step on a tiny!

And finally, watch the events section for the posting of the quarter 1 events calendar. It will start winding us up. And the timing of that action is imminent…. :D
